Visit Mnemosyne International for more information about this wonderful cultural organization dedicated to the preservation of women’s mysteries.

In ancient Greek culture, Mnemosyne is the great goddess of 'memory,' the living flame of memory, and the mother of the nine muses. Mnemosyne dance company presents ancient and contemporary dances that are the embodiment of a culture's living wisdom and artistic traditions. Engaged both in traditional research and innovating choreography, Mnemosyne seeks to stay
true to its roots and wings by introducing exciting new ways to experience and express traditional dance, especially women’s dances of the East and Mediterranean. By dancing traditional dance, Mnemosyne celebrates the wisdom and beauty of our shared cultural heritage. By interpreting traditional dance for contemporary audiences, Mnemosyne hopes to keep alive the soul of its art so that the message of dance is alive for future generations.

In existence for almost two years, Mnemnosyne's artistic director, Kristina Koutsoudas has recently been two prestigious awards  for choreography. In 2011, with her third Individual Artist's award for Choreography
from the Houston Arts Alliance and the City of Houston, Kristina created Nour-an-Nisa: Light of Femininity that debuted at the internationally renown historic site, the Rothko Chapel.

In the summer of 2013, Kristina was awarded another grant for choreography to expand upon themes started in Nour, the persian peris or angels. In January 2014, Roya  or Persian Dreams, a synthesis of Persian classical dance and modern dance, will debut at the Evelyn Rubenstein Jewish Community Center and be repeated again later in the Spring at the Wortham Center.

Both “Nour-an-Nisa” and “Roya”  teach audiences and dancers about rare traditional rituals, customs, and dances of the Near and Middle East and North Africa.
